Sadly, it was our last sea day for our cruise to nowhere aboard the Quantum of the Seas. Time really just flies when you’re having fun! 3 days flew by in a blink of an eye! On our last sea day, we decided to take it down a notch and spend most of the day at Solarium, knocking back cocktails, chilling in the hot tub and taking in views of the sea. Nonetheless, we still had a couple of activities planned, including Xbox/Fussball at Seaplex as well as dinner at The Chef’s Table – definitely something we looked forward to this evening!
This morning we woke up slightly later, taking in the beautiful reflections of the sun as it rose over the open seas. Thereafter, it was our usual routine of gourmet coffee and freshly squeezed orange. Compass Cruise (Royal Caribbean Cruise Program Sheet) for the last day was:
Quantum of the Seas Review Day 4 Breakfast Buffet at Windjammer
For breakfast, we visited Windjammer for the breakfast buffet options. This time, we were able to try the coconut rice, noodles and froot loops!
The noodles were not up to the mark. However, the coconut rice and sambal was good. Although the fried chicken was a little dry, the sambal and fragrant coconut rice might give Dream Cruise’s Nasi Lemak a run for its money! We were also thankful that we were able to see full rainbows this morning, rising and ending in the open seas. Beautiful! Reminded us of God’s convenant with man…
After breakfast, it was time for our Xbox and Fussball sessions at Seaplex. We had booked these timeslots on Day 1 for 9am and 920am respectively. Yup, the time slots were quite short at only 20 minutes per session…
Quantum of the Seas Seaplex Xbox / Fussball Sessions
After verifying our booking slots, we were given 2 Xbox controllers and led to our Xbox console at level 2 by another staff. We quickly chose Fifa as our game of choice – although there were many other options, such as Roblox for the kids. For the first 5 minutes, we had difficulties getting both controllers to work. As a result, we started to play the game with one controller. Turns out, we were given the wrong controllers and the staff came over to give us a replacement before we could play the game proper. In the end, we were only able to play one half of a game together, scoring only 1 goal, before the staff came over to inform us that our time was up. Next, it was Fussball…
We returned to the reception again and this time, after verification, we were given the fussball “soccer ball”. Again, we followed a staff to our dedicated fussball table and it was time to play some fussball! 20 minutes was definitely sufficient for fussball as we played 3 full games before the staff returned again to inform us that our time was up. During this time, we also observed that Amber (our host for games on day 2) was teaching line dancing…
Heading back to Solarium to chill for the day, we managed to get our favourite seats at the front of the Solarium and started our day with strawberry / peach frozen magaritas. This was followed with Stella Artois and Zinfandel…
George, the best cocktail maker onboard, started us with a mudslide cocktail…
Quantum of the Seas Two70 Cafe Lunch
For lunch, we decided to try Two70 Cafe for something light, in preparation for our supposedly heavy dinner at the Chef’s Table…
There were several sandwiches that we enjoyed at Two70 Cafe, including Reuben, Cuban and Beef Sandwich. The beef sandwich together with the au jus reminded us of the french-dripped sandwiches we had in Philadelphia. We also found that the best alcoholic coffees were Cold White Satin and Royal Delight. Try them if you’re on the Deluxe Beverage Package! After lunch, it was another lazy afternoon back at the Solarium…
George continued his concoctions, bringing us other cocktail shots such as banana split, chocolate cake (clear liquid cocktail that tasted chocolatey) and naughty Alexandra…phew…we literally slept like a baby at Solarium…
Belong long, 4 hours in the Solarium had passed! 😲 Nonetheless, we were thankful to have had such a relaxing and rejuvenating afternoon, staring out at the open seas and simply, resting. As night fall descended, we took some random photos before heading for the Chef’s Table…
Quantum of the Seas Chef’s Table Review
We have written extensively on The Chef’s Table by Royal Caribbean Cruise in a separate post. Nonetheless, we’ll still leave some thoughts on the dinner that we had this evening…
We arrived slightly before 8pm and were greeted by our waiter for this evening Chao. He informed us that we’d be having a really satisfying dinner this evening. In fact, none of his guests had ever finished all the drinks and all the dishes at the Chef’s Table before as they were so full! He also let us in on a little secret…the Chef’s Table is the most exclusive dinner table onboard the Quantum of the Seas. This was because there was a dedicated kitchen team that serves just the handful of diners at the Chef’s Table. Not only so, dishes served here cannot be found elsewhere onboard. In addition, some wines are only served here and no where else onboard! That’s how exclusive The Chef’s Table of Royal Caribbean Cruise is…
These were the dishes that were served during our dinner at the Chef’s Table this evening. For the full low down, visit our complete review of The Chef’s Table by Royal Caribbean Cruise. Nonetheless, we have got to say that The Chef’s Table was indeed one of the most satisfying meal we’ve had in a really long time. The wine pairings with each dish was impeccable, bringing out the best in the dish as well as the wines. If we had to identify a couple of dishes to highlight, the Scallop Carpaccio would definitely be one of them. The thinly sliced scallops brought up a fresh-ness that we’ve never experienced before. The texture of the scallops together with the yuzu vinaigrette was simply refreshing. The Roasted Branzino also surprised us with the oily yet crisp skin as well as its light, sweet and enticing white flesh. Expertly done. The Honig Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) that paired the Filet Mignon indeed raised the overall experience. This was the wine that was only served at the Chef’s Table. Priced at over a $100 a bottle (retail, restaurant would probably be doubled), the notes of plum and black raspberry as well as tinges pepper definitely elevated the taste of the medium rare beef. Exquisite!
Lastly, the Chef’s Table also encouraged interaction with other diner’s at the table. It was also the company that made the overall experience at The Chef’s Table, that much more memorable. As Chao rightly pointed out, it was the right choice to have the Chef’s Table on the last night, ending the entire cruise on a high note. If you have not tried The Chef’s Table before, we’d strongly encourage you to give a go – especially if you do enjoy wines pairings with your meals.
Farewell Breakfast at The Grande Restaurant for The Key Program
On our final morning (day 5), we arrived in port at about 6 am…
As guests of The Key Program, we were treated to a luxurious farewell breakfast at The Grande restaurant…
Initially, we were anticipating just a fairly normal and routine kinda breakfast. However, we were so wrong! Guests of The Key program were indeed pampered at this final breakfast before departure. The eggs benedict came with a generous serving of crab cake while the steak and eggs had a expertly-prepared cut of steak – probably the best steaks and eggs we’ve had for breakfast. Juicy and flavourful, this farewell breakfast was indeed luxurious and left an indelible impression for us.
