Sand and Sandals Resort & Spa is the latest addition to the vacation destination of Desaru – a popular Singaporean holiday destination. Formerly known as Pulai Desaru Beach Resort & Spa, Sand and Sandals Desaru has undergone an amazing face lift and is now a sought-after resort venue for families and couples alike. Thanks to the great folks at Sand and Sandals Resort & Spa Desaru Beach (big shout out to Hui Jun and Seraphine!), we were hosted to a unforgettable stay right here!

Rooms and Accommodation at Sand and Sandals Desaru
The revamped resort has positioned itself as a premier resort for couples in Desaru. This can be seen from the Couple Deluxe Rooms and Couple Suites added to its offerings. Families are also not forgotten with attractive pirate-themed Family Suites for the kids. For us, the highlight has got to be the Couple Deluxe Room with Private Pool. The perfect room for honeymooners! Couples also have options such as the Couple Suite Duplex, Couple Deluxe Room as well as the Couple Deluxe Room with Private Garden to choose from!

Kids will also be thrilled with the new Family Suite Duplex at Sand and Sandals Desaru. The brightly coloured and attractive pirates-themed bedrooms will spur the imagination of kids. The ship’s wheel at the front of the bed actually turns! The suite actually reminded us of our experience at Legoland Florida. If you’re heading to Miami in Florida, do check out the vacation house rentals in Miami Beach as well! Definitely worth a visit!

Sand and Sandals Desaru Facilities
As guests enter the hotel lobby of Sand and Sandals Desaru, you’ll find the tall wooden structures welcome you on the right (hotel reception) and left (Game On – Activities Centre). Instead of merely naming it the usual (and boring) “Activities Centre”, “Game On” puts out a challenge for guests to try out the various tours and activities available here. Whether it is a tour of all the things to do in Desaru such as the Desaru Fruit Farm, a night of magical fire flies or even deep sea fishing, you’ll be sure to find something that interests you at Game On. Next to the hotel reception, you’ll be able to find a kids playroom – a perfect venue for the young ones.
One of our favourite facility has got to be the swimming pool! Cliche as it may be, turns out that the pool is perfect for couples because of the resort feel and vibe that it exudes! We totally enjoyed the selection of music and awesome sound system by the sunken bar. There’s the water slide for the kids and a waterfall where you can enjoy a shoulder massage as the waters showers over you. At the sunken bar, you can enjoy a selection of cocktails and draft beer, complimented with tapas. Though the Pina Colada we tried was not up to the mark, yet, we have reflected to the management. Try it the next time you’re there and let us know whether it has improved in our comments section below.
A jacuzzi next to the sunken bar was where we spent much of our time enjoying the sea breeze, hearing the waves and allowing us to sink into a blissful rest…
Besides the new Sunken Bar, there is also an elevated platform added to the hotel’s premise. From it, you’ll be able to enjoy views of the Desaru Beach and also a bird’s eye view of the entire Sand and Sandals Desaru Resort.
As a beach destination, you’ll love the private beach that Sand and Sandals Desaru offers. We love the nice little touch of adding swings and hammocks along the beach. There, we probably spent a couple of hours (over a few days of course), lying in the hammock, allowing the gentle sea breeze caress us as we swayed from side to side. Now that’s real chillax right there…
In the mornings, you’ll be able to enjoy splendid sunrises. As the sun rises over the horizon, there’s also a reflection over the waters. Simply amazing – the awesome handiwork of the Lord! 🙂
At the sea sports centre, you’ll be able to enjoy sea activities such as canoeing, jet skiing as well as fishing activities. Tom got to try out jet skiing and boy was it exhilarating! Cruising at speeds up to 50km/h over the waters was both fun and exciting – perfect for the thrill seekers! Or you can opt for the “less exciting” banana boat ride 😛 For a more leisurely day out at sea, you can opt to go out on a single or couples canoe…
After a day of fun at the resort, you can then rejuvenate at the hotel’s spa – Senses Spa. This time, we got to try out the outdoor Couple’s Massage followed by a dip in the milk bath in the lover’s bathtub! The massage was indeed relaxing and rejuvenating but the highlight at the outdoor venue was the sound of the waves in the distance as well as the periodic chirping of the birds in the natural surroundings. Pure bliss…

Dining Options at Sand and Sandals Desaru
Fortune Kitchen 鸿运厅
We were pleasantly surprised by innovative dim sum that Chef Jay Lee created at Fortune Kitchen 鸿运厅. The dishes definitely scored high on presentation, taste, innovation and skill! This is because, as a restaurant that does not use pork, Chef Jay Lee was able to recreate tastes that are traditionally achieved with pork. The other pleasant surprise was the Herbal Chicken Soup served in teapot. Thick, savoury broth bursting with flavours, served in a tea cup!
All of the above tasted great! Not to be missed though are the Crispy Avocado Roll, Charcoal Egg Tart, Molten Charcoal Bun and the Herbal Chicken Soup served in Tea Pot! Must-try dim sum while you’re here at Fortune Kitchen, Sand and Sandals Desaru!
Besides Fortune Kitchen, you also have option of dining at Shiokaze Teppan (Japanese Cuisine), Spices and Herbs Restaurant (Local and Western Cuisine) as well as The Cafe for artisan coffee and desserts. Sand and Sandals also partnered with Snuk Thai Street BBQ and their offerings include…
Our favourite was definitely the Tom Yum Seafood. Unlike most watery versions, the Tom Yum at Snuk Thai was rich, flavourful and chock full of ingredients! The other dish that we liked was the salted egg yolk calamari. Crispy with the robust taste of salted egg yolk – yummilicious!
