Prior to our departure for Klove Cruise, we stayed at the Hotel Ponce de Leon, an hour’s walk away from Little Havana. Since we were in “Little Havana”, we had to try out some “authentic Cuban Sandwiches” and after some Google research, we settled upon Sanguich de Miami which specialises in gourmet Cuban sandwiches in Little Havana Miami. Judging by the queue outside Sanguich, we think we’re on the right track…
About Sanguich de Miami – Best Cuban Sandwiches in Little Havana
First off, we have to clarify about what really is a “Cuban Sandwich”. Apparently, during our visit to Cuba, it was not so easy to find a “Cubano” (or Cuban Sandwich), though we did eventually have one that was simple and characterised by its crisp outer layer of the Cuban bread.
In comes Sanguich de Miami in Little Havana Cuba.
Although we “double confirmed” with our Cuban Uber driver that the “Cuban sandwiches” that everyone gets in US is quite different from what can be had in Cuba, we must say that the rendition at Sanguich is definitely the version that EVERYONE “hopes” to be the authentic Cuban sandwich because it is simply so so good.
Where do we start? From the well-marinated pork with garlic and spices to the Cuban bread lathered with lard and pressed till crisp perfection, the Cuban Sandwich at Sanguich is definitely one of the best – if not, World’s best as touted by Sanguich.
As there were 5 other people in front of us, we figured that most people are queuing to enter Sanguich de Miami to dine inside. Hence, we headed over to the window to order takeaway. There was no menu for the sandwiches offered at Sanguich, but we were asked to step into the restaurant to take a look at the menu at its entrance. At the same time, we also noticed the emerald-green walls with sleek brass trimmings that lined its interior. Classy.
Here are the sandwiches offered from the menu at Sanguich de Miami – Little Havana Miami:

After a quick browse of the Sanguich Menu, we decided on the Sanguich Cubano ($13.49) and the Pan Con Lechon ($11.99). It may seem that the price is a little steep but given the sizeable Cuban sandwiches as well as the amazing tastes that we were about to enjoy, the price may be well worth it…
After waiting for 30 minutes, we were finally served our Cuban sandwiches from Sanguich. However, we were just handed the sandwiches wrapped in paper. As the walk back would be about 1 hour, we asked for the brown takeaway bag which is rather pretty we might add.
How Are The Cuban Sandwiches of Sanguich de Miami Little Havana Menu
Let’s talk about the Sanguich Cubano first…
We actually loved both sandwiches and we have to explain that despite taking the Cuban sandwiches, one hour after it was prepared, the outer cuban bread still remained crisp. Usually you’d expect either the sauces or juicy meats to “moisten” the bread and make it soggy, nothing like that happened with the Sanguiches. We were impressed.
Upon the first bite, we were hooked. You could taste the different textures from the bread, to the pickles and a mustard that cuts through what seemed more like jamon (fatty ham). Fatty flavours and garlicky spices that had infused the ham and sandwich. Yum!
As for the Pan Con Lechon…
The lechon was so well marinated and we could taste the garlic cilantro aioli which infused robust flavours to the entire Cuban sandwich. In fact, both sandwiches were so good that Kate and Tom were split on which was the better one. Tom enjoyed the classic Cubano while Kate loved the flavourful lechon. So who is right? This, you’ve got to find out yourself.

After trying out the Cubano from Sanguich de Miami, whether “Cuban Sandwiches” are actually served in Cuba are no longer the topic of contention. What really matters is that Sanguich serves up possibly some of the best gourmet sandwiches in Little Havana, Miami and possibly the world over. It really is in our collective interest to ensure that Sanguich continues to be able to do what they do to continue serving up the beautifully marinated lechon and ham so that we can all continue to enjoy “authentic cuban sandwiches” during our next visit to Little Havana. Highly recommended!
