Singapoliday, as the name suggests, is to enjoy your holidays right here in Singapore! With the COVID situation expected to continue well into 2021, STB has started the SingapoRediscovers campaign to encourage Singaporeans to discover a different side of Singapore. With a budget of $45 million set aside, the campaign hopes to partner with local tourism-related businesses to curate authentic travel experiences, right here in Singapore! So what are some of the things that we can do in Singapore to enjoy our very on slice of Singapoliday? Stay tuned and find out!
Singapoliday Suggestion #1: Rediscover Local Precincts
If you have been following our Singapore Travel Series, you’d realise that there are still many gems that we can rediscover and share with fellow Singaporeans. For instance, through our travels to the heartlands of Toa Payoh, Ang Mo Kio and Tampines, we were able to learn about the history of these townships. For instance, did you know that Queen Elizabeth visited Toa Payoh, not once, but twice – in 1972 as well as 2006!
There are also many other things that we saw on these trips such as the old spiral staircases in Toa Payoh as well as the beautiful murals we saw in Tampines. Of course, we also discovered foods from these precincts as well. Which leads us to our second point…
Singapoliday Suggestion #2: Rediscover Local Hawker and Foodie Joints
How can a Singapoliday not include food?! During our visits to the various precincts in Singapore, we not only got to rediscover old gems such as Teo Kee Mushroom Minced Pork Noodle, we also found new ones such as the rum and raisin ice cream waffle at The Flourist. Of course, if you’ve been following our “What to Eat” series, you’d also find out some of the amazing foods, hidden in the 114 hawker centres in Singapore. Check out our favourites from ABC Brickworks Food Centre, Haig Road Market and Food Centre as well as Changi Village Hawker Centre.
Singapore Staycation Suggestion #3: Rediscover Top Singapore Attractions
With foreign tourists vastly reduced during this COVID season, it is actually time for Singaporeans to head to our very own attractions! In Singapore, we have some of the top attractions in world. This includes one of the best Zoos in the world (Singapore Zoo), one of the tallest observation wheel (Singapore Flyer) as well as a world-class aquarium (S.E.A. Aquarium). Now, we can visit without the crowds! Perhaps one of the best time to take all the rides at Universal Studios Singapore! What’s not to like about that?
Staycations in Singapore Suggestion #4: Rediscover Singapore Staycations
What better way to a Singapoliday than to do a Staycation in Singapore? You can rediscover the heritage of Singapore through such staycations. For instance, our staycation at Village Hotel Katong allowed our to be immersed in the Peranakan culture – through the food and the iconic Peranakan-styled houses along Koon Seng Road. To live it up in the heart of the city, complete with a rooftop swimming pool that overlooks Marina Bay Sands, head for a staycation at Hotel Jen Orchardgateway. With easy access to Singapore’s premier shopping belt as well as amazing views from its rooftop area, it will definitely be a hit with the family. Finally, for pure luxury, we’d recommend a staycation at Pan Pacific Singapore Hotel. At the Pacific Club, we had one of the most enjoyable lounge experience.
In addition, the list of approved hotels for staycation in Singapore is increasing each day! Make the most of your Singapoliday in 2020 and 2021! Let us know more Singapoliday recommendations in our comments section below!
