As the drive from Gyeongju to Danyang took 3 hours, we started Day 10 of our South Korea Travel Itinerary early in the morning. The route from Gyeongju to Danyang cost 48,000krw for petrol as well as 12,000krw for tolls. Along the way, we stopped at a rest stop to enjoy a fried prawn tempura udon (6,500krw), fried chicken stick (4,000krw) and a caramel macchiato from cafe droptop (4,900krw)…

Danyang Attractions – Chungju Lake Cruise
Although we were already using Waze, we took our attention off and made a wrong turn, adding 50km to our trip. Thankfully, we were able to capture some great views of Woraksan National Park along the way and arrive at Jungho ferry place for views of Chungju Lake…
One of the main highlights of Danyang is to take a cruise along Chungju Lake. We arrived at Jungho Ferry Place and found the area to have scenic views of the lake. In addition to being a departure venue for the Chungju Lake Cruises, there’s also lots of shopping and dining options there as well. After taking in deep breathes and admiring the scenic beauty, we headed into Danyang City itself…

Danyang Attractions – Danyang City Kyochon Chicken Yongbaek Falls
What we discovered in Danyang was a real treat for us! Turns out that the river meanders around the city itself and Kate managed to find a Kyochon Chicken outlet in Danyang City for us to enjoy these views…
Thanks to Kate’s quick thinking (and Googling), we were able to locate Kyochon Chicken and park our car along the (free) street parking nearby. Kyochon Chicken is one of the most famous fried chicken franchise in South Korea. Which by the way, has been verified by us to be…YUMMY! However, that’s not all. This particular Kyochon Chicken franchise is special because it is located right where paragliders in Danyang land. Hence, while enjoying the awesome fried chicken, we were greeted by paragliders landing every now and then. To top things off, Yongbaek falls in the background, provided the perfect backdrop for our first meal in Danyang.

Danyang Attractions – Dodamsambong Peak
One of the biggest attraction in Danyang are the Dodamsambong Peaks located along Namhangang River.
Besides the views of Dodamsambong peaks, there are also shopping and dining options in the vicinity as well. If you’re game for a climb (up several flights of stairs), you’ll be able to reach a pavilion atop a hill to enjoy some scenic views. This Kate vehemently declined. 😛 Parking at Dodamsambong Peaks cost 3,000krw.
Next it was time to check out our hotel at Daemyung Resort Danyang!
The room at Daemyung Resort Danyang was SPACIOUS! Besides, the kitchenette, there was also another smaller room for those who prefer to lay tatami to sleep on the floor. Of course, what we enjoyed most about our room was the view of the valleys, right from our balcony!
As the orientation of the bed faces the amazing valley view, we were greeted by this view as we woke up the next morning. Simply beautiful. The not-so-good thing about the hotel is that the hotel price doesn’t include entry to the water theme park. Although there was a 20% discount, we still had to pay 64,000krw (instead of 80,000krw) for the both of us – which was REALLY expensive…
There were several facilities inside Danyang Aqua World including swimming pool, jacuzzi pool – both outdoors and indoors, water jets of different varieties as well as slides for both adults and kids. As with Korean “Spas”, (recall our Busan Spaland experience), there was also a bathing/sauna area for both male and female before entering the pool area. Of course, that’s where you’ll have to be completely naked to bathe and enjoy the hot pools. The other thing about Korean swimming pools is that you’ll have to wear a swimming cap! As we did not know it and looked completely out of place, the life guard, out of good will, lent a couple of swimming caps to us. Otherwise, one would have to rent them to swim in Aqua World.
The reason why we were out of place was because, Kate was probably the only lady in bikini while Tom was only one of 2 guys that was topless. Strangely, everyone, including guys, wear long sleeve swim wear to common pool areas…while being able to bathe completely naked in front of other guys or ladies…that was something strange for us. Nonetheless, we still enjoyed the high water jets that helped relaxed our muscles as well as the outdoor pools with a cooling weather.
To round off the evening, we followed a flight of stairs in front of the hotel and reached Danyang City itself. There, we sat on the 2 iconic red chairs by the Namhangang River and enjoyed the breath-taking sunset over the mountains…
As we still had several pieces of fried chicken from lunch at Kyochon, we bought some snacks, sweets, melon ice cream and banana makgeolli for 5,000krw from a local mini-mart.
Climbing up the stairs back to Daemyung Resort Danyang, a challenging climb by the way, we arrived back at the hotel’s premise and found the night lightings to be up!
