Flying from Busan Domestic Airport to Jeju International Airport
Busan Domestic Airport had its arrival hall at level 1 and departure hall at level 2.
This time, we took the flight from Busan to Jeju via Air Busan. However, there was a slight hiccup. Eventhough we had received the QR code from Air Busan, we were not able to clear the departure gates using the QR code. Instead, the staff at the gate had to print out a ticket and scan that ticket before we entered. Likewise, we were not able to enter using QR code at the boarding gate and had to be manually registered. Lastly, when we got onboard, eventhough we had tickets, we had to wait for verification once again. Hence, we really wondered why Air Busan even bothered to send QR code to its passengers anyway…sigh…
A shuttle bus took us to the plane and we had to walk up the stairs to board the plane. Before long, we were air borne!
The flight time from Busan to Jeju takes about 1 hour. Arriving at Jeju International Airport, our first order of the day was to locate the Avis. Then, we realised that in South Korea, Avis = AJ-Rent-A-Car…
At the car rental centre, we were surprised to be charge higher than what we had booked online, due to the exchange rate used. As AJ-Rent-A-Car used a poorer USD to KRW exchange rate, we paid $152USD as compared to the $137USD that we had calculated online. However, we did not face the same problem when we rented our car in Busan. Hence, we deduced that the higher rates were probably due to the tourist charges for the special self-governing province?
Jeju Attractions – Mysterious Road…
Mysterious Road Jeju Explained
If you take a look at the Mysterious Road above, you’ll see that it actually looks like you’re driving upwards. In actual fact, the road leads DOWNWARDS. The reason why the road seems to be heading upwards is because of the surrounding environment at the end of the road, resulting in an optical illusion of travelling upwards.
Hence, you’ll also notice many tourists trying to pour water on Mysterious Road to verify the direction of flow. The most common way however, is to drive on the road and change to neutral gear and see the car travelling by itself “upwards”! This we did and were convinced that the road really does lead downwards but looks like it’s going up! Remember to use your hazard light and place your feet lightly on the brakes as safety measures when you’re trying out this experiment!
Next to Mysterious Road, there’s a 7-11 as well as a huge locality map and a couple of statues where you could take some photos. For a quick break, we had korean instant noodles and soju – iconic South Korean food fare! On the way down to Jeju Shinhwa Landing Resort, we stopped by another Jeju attraction – Hallasan (aka Mt Halla)!

Jeju Attractions – Hallasan (한라산) aka Mt Hallasan
Using Eorimok Trail on Waze, we arrived at Hallasan and visited the Hallasan Visitor Centre first. Parking at Mt Hallasan costs 1800krw.
When we visited Hallasan Visitor Centre, there was NOBODY! No visitors that is. Information included safety precautions, history of Hallasan as well as the flora and fauna that one can see at Hallasan. When we exited, we also took some time to enjoy the beautiful views it offers…
There are 2 trails at this particular area that we visited. Both trails had latest entry time at 5pm and 7pm respectively. Of course, this means that the later entry time corresponds to a shorter hike and vice versa. As we had read online that hiking Hallasan can take several hours with some levels of difficulty at some point, we decided to skip the hike partly also due to time constraints. If you had visited and conquered Hallasan, tell us more in our comments section below!

There were several highlights at Jeju Shinhwa World. For instance, chilling at Untitled 2017, a cafe designed by G Dragon was relaxing experience for us. The Jeju Citrus Cake (a little expensive at 7500krw) was particularly refreshing. Not to be missed is also the BBQ Black Pork at 3 Butcher’s. The menu at 60,000krw included premium black pork. Plus, the staff would prepare the meats for you. No pressure to cook and ensure the right texture. The staff will ensure that 😉 Click, for the full review of Jeju Shinhwa Landing Resort.
