Spicy Girl (辣妹子) Review: What We Had during Lunar New Year in Orlando USA

What We Had at Spicy Girl (辣妹子) Orlando Review

Spicy Girl (辣妹子) was where we headed during Lunar New Year in Orlando USA. After visiting Orlando International Premium Outlets, it was time for lunch and since it was the eve of Lunar New Year, we decided to try out the Chinese food in the vicinity. Taking a look in Google, Spicy Girl (辣妹子) seemed like a great venue this afternoon…

Even though it was a Friday, there was nobody when we visited during lunch time. We approached the counter and asked if the restaurant was opened and we were asked to be seated. Looking around, we found the premise to be clean and spacious. There was a Chinese food programme that was playing on the TV. The premise had “2 levels” with a slightly elevated mezzanine with more seats available. There’s also a huge map of the world where we sat and visitors can indicate the area where they came from. Soon, the menu of Spicy Girl (辣妹子) was brought over to us…

Browsing through the menu of Spicy Girl (辣妹子) Orlando, we found the offerings to be similar to Dong Bei, Sze Chuan and Chong Qing cuisine in Singapore. Spicy Girl (辣妹子) Orlando is probably specialising in Sze Chuan cuisine, with offerings such as Spicy Chicken (辣子鸡), Grilled Whole Strip Bass (重庆烤鱼(鲈鱼)) and Fatty Beef w. Hot Pepper (小炒肥牛) on their menu. We ordered the following for our Lunar New Year Eve’s celebration at Spicy Girl (辣妹子) with:

1. 凉粉 Spicy Cold Jelly ($7.95)
2. 锅包肉 Sweet & Sour Pork ($15.95)
3. Qing Dao Beer ($5)
4. Rice ($2)

The 凉粉 Spicy Cold Jelly at Spicy Girl (辣妹子) had a nice sesame-based gravy that we were familiar with. However, the 凉粉 itself is not the chewy version (aka potato-based) that we enjoyed. Nonetheless, still an appetizing dish to start the meal.

The 锅包肉 Sweet & Sour Pork at Spicy Girl (辣妹子) had the hallmarks of a good rendition. Firstly, the meat itself had a nice crispy coating. This is despite being coated with the sweet and tangy gravy on the outside. Yup, the batter doesn’t become soggy which is an indicator of a good meat coating. Next, the sweet and sourish gravy was delicious, especially with the spring onions. However, in terms of the viscosity, we would have preferred it to be a little more viscous but we’re not adverse to this version as it can coat the meat and batter much better as well.

Lastly, the rice was sooo goood! Perhaps we had been in US for 2 weeks by this time and were craving for Chinese food already 😅

Spicy Girl (辣妹子) seems to have a pretty good foundation in preparing Chinese cuisine. Judging from the 锅包肉 Sweet & Sour Pork, the chef does have pretty good techniques. Moreover, the prices are relatively affordable for US standards. At <$20, you'll get a dish and portion that is good for 2-3 to share. Hence, if you're in Orlando, visiting the many attractions and shopping outlets and craving for Chinese cuisine, Spicy Girl (辣妹子) would make a decent option to satisfy those cravings.
