Studio M Staycation Review: Studio Loft by the Singapore River!

Studio M Hotel Staycation Review

Studio M was our next staycation venue as we had wanted to try out the Studio Loft for a while now. Located at 3 Nanson Rd, Studio M is located at Robertson Quay by the Singapore River. It also means it is a pretty short walk to Clarke Quay as well…

Premier Loft Studio M Hotel Review

At about $250 per night, Studio M Hotel’s Premier Loft Room is one of the most affordable yet comfortable rooms in the Robertson/Clarke Quay Area. Although it is only 22sqm in floor area, it does not feel that small due to the loft design within…

Within, you’ll be able to find all the usual perks of a 4-star hotel such as coffee/tea amenities, cable TV and a comfortable king-sized bed at the “second level”

The TV is situated in front of the bed such that you can lie down and enjoy your favourite TV shows. Do note that there isn’t a TV on the first floor. Also, the signal for the TV ain’t that good. The quality was intermittent and while watching “Rumble” (cartoon movie about monsters boxing), there was a buzzing sound as well. The room also is equipped with the usual towels, shower amenities too…

From our room, we were able to have a glimpse of the swimming pool but the view from the lift lobby was still the best…

Studio M has a rather decent swimming pool that “catches” the sun through the afternoons. Hence, even though the swimming pool would be slightly cold in the mornings, by mid-afternoon, it would be a rather nice place to hang out. The jacuzzi is located right next to the swimming pool.

After checking out the hotel premise, we had a quick shower and adjourned to have lunch at one of our favourite food markets in Singapore – Tiong Bahru Market!

In and Around Studio M Hotel

During our check-in, the reception was quite crowded at about 11am. Now at about 2pm, it was still as crowded. Nonetheless, there was still some order in place. Just be patient and you’ll be served soon 😇

Right next to Studio M Hotel, there are some pretty good restaurants such as Publico, Three Buns as well as the Memo Cafe. We’re intrigued by the Big Huey challenge at Three Buns. If you have taken the challenge, let us know more in the comments section below. There are some unique structures such as this beautifully decorated trishaw…

Back at Tiong Bahru Market, we had a pretty hearty meal of chicken rice, dry handmade noodles, deep fried dumplings as well as a gigantic cup of sugarcane…

Always enjoy a trip to Tiong Bahru Market because of its delicious yet affordable food. This meal came up to less than $20. After chilling out a little in the vicinity (ie Tiong Bahru Plaza), we proceeded to one of the highlights of this staycation – chilling out at Skiver Bar…

As we’ve covered Skiver Sky Bar in a separate post, we’ll just share that it was the night of NDP preview. Hence, we were able to catch the Singapore Flag fly right past us!

After breakfast, Kate planned another trip for us. This time, we headed to Fort Canning…

Fort Gate at Fort Canning

At the onset, you may think that its really nice to head to Fort Canning Hill and enjoy some greenery. Well, yes. But Kate has an ulterior motive…that is…to visit Tiong Bahru Bakery!

There’s a banner at the front of Fort Canning Park Tiong Bahru Bakery that talks about the history of the area. In the past, the foothills of Fort Canning used to be the River Valley Swimming Complex, one of the first few swimming complexes in Singapore. We also enjoyed the ambience within. There’s even an area where you can see the bakers hard at work within. Did you know that each Tiong Bahru Bakery has a specialty item that is only available at that branch? At the Fort Canning branch, the specialty item is the Sourdough Croissant. We also had the Chocolate Kouign Amann. Both were so so goood! 😋

To end off the evening, we headed to TAP.

TAP @ Robertson Quay
TAP @ Robertson Quay

We were recently introduced to TAP because of the beers on tap that it offers. There are even some draft beers that are only available here and no where else. The cool thing about drinking at TAP is that the beers are priced the same across its varieties. You can enjoy the 16oz at $10 per pint or the 20oz (jumbo) at $12 (prices have increased since – do check out the latest via their website). As for the bar grub, we went for the Red Curry Seafood ($20) and the Pork Belly Quesadilla ($17). The Quesadilla was quite delicious with generous mozzarella cheese. However, the Red Curry Seafood was not as generous in terms of the ingredients – though the gravy was quite shiok.
