Tamago-en Review: Egg Specialty Restaurant from Okinawa Japan!

Pork Katsu Sando Tamago-En Review

Tamago-en is an egg specialty restaurant that flies in eggs direct from Okinawa Japan. Having tried Eggslut Singapore and absolutely loving it, we decided to give Tamago-en a shot as well!

Tamago-en Menu and Ambience

Inside Tamago-en, one of the first things that caught our eyes were the interior decorations within! If you take a look at the lightings above, it is modelled after an egg, with a bright orange yolk right in the middle. There’s also a white cage that has been making its rounds in Instagram – an elegant egg-shaped cage. Next, we started to work through the Tamago-en menu…

There’s a wide range of egg specialty to choose from that includes sandwiches, curries, eggs benedict, burgers, tamago, salad, donburi, omurice, pasta and souffle pancakes!

What we had at Tamago-en

After browsing through the menu, we decided on the Pork Katsu Sando ($15.50), Tamago-en Oyako Don ($13.90) and Tamago!

The tamago from Tamago-en has a gentle texture and slightly sweet taste. A delightful treat to start off the meal.

Next, the Pork Katsu Sando. Described as “Crispy pork katsu with okonomiyaki sauce, sunny side-up in toasted white bread. Served with mesclun salad and furikake fries“, the sandwich was simple yet enticing. Of course, the star of this dish was the Okinawan egg. The rich orange egg yolk complemented the pork katsu and toast so well. Yum!

We totally enjoyed the Oyako Don from Tamago-en. The eggs were so fluffy! Indeed, it was fuwa-fuwa as advertised! The chicken was tender and together, the rice, egg and chicken were a perfect melody.

Conclusion

Overall, even though we felt that the portions were a tad bit small, they were delicious and made up with quality. Sandwich/burger wise, we still think that the Fairfax Sandwich from Eggslut is still pretty good with its expertly prepared fluffy eggs. However, if we return to Tamago-en , we’d still order the Oyako Don! If you have tried other dishes such as the souffle pancake at Tamago-en, do let us know more in the comments section below!
