Recently, we visited Tampopo for the Eatigo 50% off lunch deals. On the same visit, we found that Tampopo is offering 1-for-1 deals for its tonkatsu and ramen at its Oasis Terraces branch. So which deal is better? In this post, we’ll also find out whether the Top Grade Black Pork Tonkatsu is really worth the few extra bucks. Let’s go!
Tampopo Oasis Terraces Eatigo 50% Discount is Slightly Better
On the first look, it seems that there is actually no difference between the 1-for-1 deals as well as the Eatigo 50% discount. They’re effectively the same. However, if you’re going for some side dishes like we had, the Eatigo 50% discount would be slightly better. Instead of the $8.80++ for the Tamogoyaki, we paid 50% off as the 1-for-1 deal did not include discounts on side dishes.
Tampopo Tonkatsu: What’s the difference Top Grade Black Pork and Black Pork Loin
As we had the 50% discount from Eatigo, we decided to go for the ultra luxurious “Top Grade Black Pork Tonkatsu” so as to find out if there’s really a difference between the top grade black pork vs the loin tonkatsu…
As with the Tiger/Larue taste test that we did in Da Nang, we also did a blind taste test on the two different types of Tokatsu.
This time, Tom was spot on.
The Top Grade Black Pork Tonkatsu really stood out. The pork was tender with streaks of fats that oozed with fatty juices on each bite. The loin tonkatsu on the other hand was good – though it was a little dry at some parts. The difference was obvious. Hence, if you’re going for treat, the couple of bucks more really justifies the difference to go for the Top Grade Black Pork Tonkatsu. Moreover, with the tonkatsu sets, rice and salads are refillable. 🤗
Tampopo’s Tamagoyaki
After the discount, the Tamagoyaki costs about $5SGD, which was quite a steal. This is because the portion was HUGE while the presentation was beautiful. No uneven edges. Taste was sweet and fluffy. Almost like a dessert. Shiok.
