Taumarunui Bakery: A Rest Stop Enroute to Huhu Chalet

What we had from Tamaurunui Bakery

After leaving Skotel Alpine Resort, we continued our journey north wards. This time towards our next destination, Huhu Chalet. Enroute, we stopped by Taumarunui Bakery in the town of Taumarunui – which, surprise surprise, has a Google rating of 4.4! This, we’ve got to check out!

Inside Taumarunui Bakery

The town of Taumarunui is actually quite a big town. Reminded us of our time in Banff where the views in the centre of the town is quite a view to behold…

This time, we ordered quite a number of items, including

Apple Cream Donut ($2.8)
Custard Slice ($3.3)
Chicken Sandwich ($3.8)
Steak and Cheese Pie ($5.5)
Chicken Pie ($5.5)

Of the 5 items, we wouldn’t recommend the Chicken Sandwich but all the other items that we’ve tried were really really good. Now, we understand why Taumarunui Bakery garners such good reviews…

We originally wanted to order the Chicken Sandwich along with a couple of desserts to bring us on our way. However, when we saw the pies on display, we knew that we had to give them a try. Turns out that both the steak and chicken pies were excellent. Delicious fillings along with a puffy outer crust. As for the desserts, both the apple cream donut and custard slice were delectable. They look as good as they taste.

Although they don’t serve gourmet coffee, there is a coffee machine within that allows you to get some black coffee to go along with the desserts. The only thing about having your bake goods there was the sensor at the door which kept ringing when we moved a little too far from our table or when a customer entered.

Otherwise, if you’re passing by Taumarunui, whether north or southwards, remember to drop by Taumarunui Bakery and try out some of their pies and desserts. You will definitely enjoy them!
