Te Awanga Estate at Hastings was our next stop after our purchase at Mission Estate Winery. Reviews of Te Awanga Estate revealed poor service and the premise being overcrowded. Our experience however, was an excellent one. Planning ahead, we avoided the crowds and had a wonderful time at Te Awanga…
Views around Te Awanga Estate
The drive way to Te Awanga Estate is a long gravel road that leads to the entrance of the restaurant. Along the way, we were greeted by views of the vineyard…
Also known as Cellar Door, the in-house restaurant and wine-tasting area is where visitors can enjoy views of the 42 acres of vines at Te Awanga Estate, enjoy some great pizza and platters while sipping on wines from the estate…
What We Had at Te Awanga Estate
Upon entry into Cellar Door, we were promptly greeted by the staff who shared with us the wine and food menu…
This time, we chose the Wildsong Sauvignon Blanc for $33 and the Maltese Falcon Pizza for $25. The bill came up to $58 + 2% credit card surcharge. After payment, we found a seat nestled at the corner of the outdoor area with great views and shade from the sun. For cutleries and water, it is self-service near the place where food and drinks were ordered indoors…
Our Take of Te Awanga Estate
Although the wines at Te Awanga were a little more expensive, we found the Wildsong Sauvignon Blanc to be rather delicious. There were hints of passion fruit, guava aromas with citrusy notes. An excellent wine. As for the Maltese Falcon Pizza, it was freshly made with olives, parmesan, capers, caramelised onions and pepperoni. All the fresh flavours along with the thin crust of the pizza came together nicely.

All in all, we found our experience at Te Awanga Estate to be a rather positive one. The service was good and our food and wine were brought to our table promptly. The wine and pizza at Te Awanga Estate were delicious. And the views…amazing! The greenery, the serenity just elevated our experience at Te Awanga Estate all together.
Just one note, do try to be early to avoid the crowds. Because after we settled in, the crowds did arrive by car and by bikes. Some visitors also started to picnic on the fields by the shields. Hence, by planning ahead, your experience at Te Awanga Estate will be sure to be a better one!
