The last time that we visited The Charming Squire Brisbane was in 2018. Then, it was located at South Bank (still is), a great location – a stone’s throw away from Brisbane Central. In 2024, we revisited The Charming Squire again but this time, its surroundings were under renovation which made getting to a little harder and also, inflation has really taken a toll on the prices here…
What We Had at The Charming Squire Brisbane in 2018

During our visit to The Charming Squire in 2018, we tried the craft beers of One Fifty Lashes, Swindler and Jack of Spades as well as the 400g Giant Rump for $36! However, during our visit in 2024, 6 years on, the 200g rump steak was already going at $30! How inflation affects our spending power. Of course, in 2018, AUD was a tad bit stronger that SGD but in 2024, SGD is a tad bit stronger. Hence, it doesn’t really affect the overall equation that prices have risen tremendously post-COVID.
What We Had at The Charming Squire Brisbane in 2024

In 2024, the interior design of The Charming Squire has not changed at all. While there was an air of familiarity, it was also to another sense, dated. Nonetheless, the premise was relatively well-kept through the years. We also noticed an extended kitchen part to the Charming Squire. Known as Embers at the Charming Squire, it was opened in September 2021. The interior looked updated and would be a great venue to chill at as well.
This time, we ordered a couple of beers and the James Squire Fish & Chips. For the beers, we had the Four Wives (Pilsner – $15.95) and Broken Shackles (Lager – $15.95). Both were refreshing and it confirmed our preference for Pilsner which has a slight bitter aftertaste. As for the James Squire Fish & Chips ($35.20), the portion was not as big as compared to the 400g Rump Steak 6 years back and also, if we were to be more particular about it, the fish was not at its freshest as well.

While visiting The Charming Squire does give us an air of familiarity whenever we visit Brisbane, the prices have increased substantially. Along with the “dated” feel as well as the poorer quality of food served, we probably won’t make the Charming Squire a visit for our subsequent visits to Brisbane.
