While checking out the offerings within Scotts Square, we stumbled across The Coffee Academics. It seems to have drawn in the crowds and we decided to do a review – To find out what is drawing the crowds in and whether the coffee is indeed as good as they say…
What did we have at The Coffee Academics
For our coffee selection, we zoomed in on the Signatures. This time, we chose Okinawa Signature Coffee ($6++) as well as the Pepper Agave Latte ($6++)…
For pastries, we decided to go with Sea Salt Caramel Tart ($6.8++)…
For the signature coffees, we were pleasantly surprised by both renditions. With the Okinawa Coffee, we were able to taste the rich brown (and slightly burnt) sugars which blended with the aromatic coffee rather well. It brought back memories of our travels in Okinawa…ah…
As for the Pepper Agave Latte, we thought it rather strange to have pepper in coffee at first. But with each taste, we found ourselves searching for the ever-so-slight peppery taste with each sip. It was a classy touch. Reminded us the “adventure” that we had with Hoi An’s Egg Coffee…the venture into the unknown…
Lastly, the Sea Salt Caramel Tart was…meh. The fillings and tart crust were rather mediocre and forgettable…
What else is on offer at The Coffee Academics
As for the remaining pastries, there were cruffins (original, lychee, matcha, passionfruit at $6.5++ each), peanut butter and jam cake ($9), almond croissant ($4) and pain au chocolat ($3). The pastries are rather expensive and if the sea salt caramel tart is anything to go by, we’d think that The Coffee Academics probably earn through the pastries rather than the coffee. Judging by the quality of the coffee, the signatures are competitively-priced.

Big fan of the coffee & coffee shops in Singapore. Visit a few years ago 4 or 5 coffee shops and when I wanted last year to have a coffee at the place I liked the most I was closed for business. Hope this one will still be open when I come to SG again!
Hopefully they do! Thanks for checking in Sorin! 🙂
