There are so many things to do and attractions in Houston, Texas! In this post, we will highlight the top 4 things to do and attractions in Houston!
Houston Attractions and Things to Do
1. Houston Space Center

The Houston Space Center is probably the biggest attraction in Houston. Remember the line, “Houston, we have a problem” from Apollo 13? That’s an important phrase that has linked Houston to NASA, well, at least to common folks like us. What we enjoyed most about the Space Center Houston is being able to visit the Historic Mission Control. Imagine visiting the same mission control that interacted with Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins as they landed on the moon…cool!
2. USS Texas and San Jacinto Monument

The San Jacinto Museum & Monument is located just a 2 minutes drive away from USS Texas Battleship. So you can knock 2 attractions off the list with one visit. At San Jacinto Museum, you’ll be able to learn about how Sam Houston led the local troops in overcoming the stronger Mexican army that allowed Texas (or Teh Ha) to gain independence from Mexican rule. In fact, he demonstrated alot of patience and only made 1 final attack with the element of surprise at about 3pm in the afternoon where the Mexicans were resting and did not expect him to attack. With the sun setting behind his troops, it caused a “blinding” effect on the Mexican troops and as a result, Sam Houston lost less than 10 men while the casualties on the Mexican side were in the hundreds. Awesome!
At the USS Texas Battleship, you’ll be able to walk through the only (ONLY) surviving WW1 Battleship. WW1 Battleships are characterized by its HUGE guns which you can see in the picture above. In addition, you’ll be able to visit the cabins, galley, engine rooms and “shopping area” of the ship to have a peek at how life was like back in the early 1900s (USS Texas was commissioned on 12 March 1914).
3. Kemah Boardwalk

|
|
Kemah Boardwalk is definitely a place to visit while you’re in Houston. There’s an open air amusement park, complete with roller coasters and ferris wheel, perfect for a day out with the kids. You can also enjoy a leisurely stroll along the boardwalk or just chill at the many restaurants here. As we were there over the Resurrection Sunday, we were blessed by a 7:30am SONrise service held at Kemah Boardwalk as well.
4. Seafood and Barbecue

We enjoyed our meals at both the Flying Dutchman Restaurant and Oyster Bar as well as Mo’s BBQ. However, we do not strongly recommend them. They’re good if you do not have anything else in mind. At FD, we enjoyed the salad which was a good portion with fresh shrimps and crab. The pulled pork & BBQ ribs was good at Mo’s and we also enjoyed the homemade BBQ sauce which you can have as much as you want, piping hot off the stove.
