Visiting Leh Ladakh and not sure what are the things to do and attractions there? The Himalayan mountain range and the beauty that it affords are what attracts revelers back to the region time and again. In this post, we’ll check out some of the top things to do and attractions in Leh Ladakah that we’ve visited while we’re there…
Leh Attraction Ladakh #1: Flying over the Himalayan Mountain Range
Even before arriving at Leh Ladakh (3500m above sea level), we were able to enjoy views of the entire Himalayan Mountain range. The snow capped mountains were indeed captivating. If you’re flying into Leh Ladakh, remember to take the morning/afternoon flight to take in these breath-taking views.
Leh Attraction Ladakh #2: Grand Dragon and views of Stok Kangri Peak
One of the best hotels in Leh Ladakh is probably the Grand Dragon Hotel Leh. Not only was the service excellent (read our Grand Dragon Hotel Leh review for details), the views of the Stok Kangri peak was unbelievable as well. Breakfast each morning with views over Stok Kangri was such a delight. Food was also delicious at the Grand Dragon Hotel Leh.
Leh Attraction Ladakh #3: Shanti Stupa
We loved the blue skies over Shanti Stupa. However, the best part is the elevated views of Leh from the viewing platform at Shanti Stupa. However, do note that altitude sickness can be very real. We felt it as we ascended the slopes to Shanti Stupa. Remember to have sufficient rest to acclimatise and bring along a camphor to ease any difficulty in breathing enroute.
Leh Attraction Ladakh #4: Tsemo Gompa
The skies remain blue as we reached Tsemo Gompa. However, it was closed during our time of visit. Nonetheless, it was a sigh of relief for us (literally) because the steps up to Tsemo Gompa was rather steep (and numerous). Although we did not ascend to the top, the bottom-up shots of Tsemo Gompa also highlights the clear blue skies with thin wisps of clouds – such beauty.
Leh Attraction Ladakh #5: Leh Palace Ladakh
At Leh Palace, you’ll also be able to have extensive views of the entire city of Leh. Within, there are exhibits on display and if you ascend to the top, fresh air and mountainous views await.
Leh Attraction Ladakh #6: Leh Market
Leh Market was a short 10 minutes walk away from the Grand Dragon Ladakh. Though it is not a “shopping mall” per se, you will be able to get everything that you need there. Restaurants, shops, cafes line the street. We even got our hair cut, complete with a head massage – all for the price of $2 SGD!
