Tram Sushi Hanoi was where we visited to satisfy our sushi cravings after an extensive day of writing. We saw that the ratings of Tram Sushi was actually quite good. So we decided to drop by and check out its offerings…

Inside Tram Sushi Hanoi
According to their website, Tram Sushi actually started out as a cart business selling sushi by the roadside – at least that’s what we’ve gathered from the photos without being able to use Google translate. Today, they not only have a 2 storey full-fledged restaurant, Tram Sushi also sits on a prime spot right in front of Truc Bach Lake…

What We Ate at Tram Sushi Hanoi
The offerings at Tram Sushi is actually quite extensive. Here’s a photo of Tram Sushi’s Menu, the portion where we ordered from…
From the menu of Tram Sushi, we saw that you can enjoy many different types of Japanese dishes such as sushi, sashimi, rice sets (with eel, beef or salmon) as well as udon. This time, we ordered
– Set 196B that comes with salmon sushi, aburi salmon sushi and unagi sushi at 216k VND (or $13 SGD).
– Beef Curry Rice at 120k VND (or $7 SGD)
– Beancurd with Ponzu Sauce (22k VND or $1.5 SGD)
As you can see from the photos above, the presentation was actually very good. The sushi were neatly arranged, so was the beef curry rice. The beancurd looked like what we would get in SG as well. However, in the taste department, they were not up to the mark.
For the sushi, it is a little difficult to describe. It’s not that it is un-eatable but the fish was really bland. Unlike the usual salmon slices that you’d get in Singapore, based on the taste and texture, you’d be able to know that its salmon. But at Tram Sushi, the taste was strangely, for a lack of a better word, missing. For aburi, you could taste a little bit of the fire-torched taste. However, instead of the usual mentaiko that we’re used to, mayonaise and a blend of teriyaki was used. Definitely not a match for the aburi salmon sushi. Lastly, the unagi sushi, was once again bland. In this case, it was “saved”, somewhat, by the unagi sauce. Overall, it was not what we expected when the sushi craving came.
Next, the beef curry rice.
The curry was ok. Decent. Potato within was soft which went rather well with the rice. The problem we have was the beef. Firstly, it was not tender. Yoshinoya is probably the Japanese fast food joint that have perfected the cooking of beef streaks to such tenderness. Tram Sushi had not. We were actually struggling to chew through the beef on each mouthful.

Overall, we paid about $21 SGD or equivalent to what we could have gotten from Don Don Donki in SG. Hence, we were a little disappointed with the offerings. Nonetheless, Tram Sushi does sit at a good location off Truc Bach Lake – a convenient location for gatherings as seen from the groups that were dining there during our visit. However, in the taste department, there’s still definitely alot of room for improvement.
