Vinpearl Safari Phu Quoc was one of the attractions we visited during our stay in Vinpearl Resort & Spa Phu Quoc. We gave VinWonders – the largest theme park in Vietnam a miss this time because we had been to the likes of Universal Studios Hollywood, Disneyland Anaheim, Busch Gardens Florida and Aquaventure Dubai. To avoid the queues for rides and attractions, we thought that Vinpearl Safari would be a good choice where we would be able to see God’s creation and also have the “Safari Experience” as well!
Getting to Vinpearl Safari Phu Quoc
As we were staying at Vinpearl Resort & Spa, there were buses that took guests to Vinpearl Safari Phu Quoc at half-hourly intervals (i.e. every 30 minutes)…
If you are also wondering what is “Coral” and “Ocean” stated in the schedule, they are actually the two lobbies of Vinpearl Resort & Spa Phu Quoc. Yup, Vinpearl Resort & Spa is so huge that it actually has 2 different lobbies. Moreover, to get to the Spa (Akoya Spa) and Gym of the hotel, a buggy is required as well – though you can take a 7 minutes walk over.
Also, if you are staying at Vinpearl Resort & Spa, you’ll be able to get a 10% discount off the ticket prices to Vinpearl Safari. The original price was 650k VND. With the discount, we were able to get the tickets at 585k VND or $32 SGD per person.
This morning, we waited at our lobby, Ocean Lobby (Vinpearl Resort & Spa Phu Quoc), to bring us to Vinpearl Safari Phu Quoc at 8:30am and we reached at 8:50am, right before opening hours at 9am. Entry was also simple, just by facial recognition as there were no tickets issued when we purchased the tickets at the hotel. This is because the system of Vinpearl attractions are interlinked. Once we had done our photo-taking at the hotel, the same recognition system could be used at Vinpearl Safari. Breakfasts at Vinpearl Resort & Spa were also done via facial recognition. Cool huh?
The Strategy to Navigate Vinpearl Safari Phu Quoc
As we entered Vinpearl Safari, we were told by the guide to do the Safari tour first. This is because the animal show in the morning would be starting at 10am. This gives us about an hour to do the Safari tour first before returning for the animal show.
Great idea…but…
We decided to do the visit to the zoo first. This is because, the air in the morning would be cool – which is excellent for walks and also, the animals would be out in the cool of the morning as well. This would allow us to make it back in time for the 10am show and to do the Safari bus tour after the animal show. Turns out that this was a better strategy than what was suggested…
Animals at the Zoo of Vinpearl Safari Phu Quoc
As you would have known by now, there are 2 main areas of Vinpearl Safari, the Zoo as well as the Safari (which runs from 9:30am to 3:20pm). The Zoo itself has two main areas, the Primates World as well as the rest of the birds, reptiles and other mammals such as Lions, Tigers, Bears, Hippos and Elephants…
One of the first animals to greet you are these pink flamingoes…
We headed first to the Primates World and saw the Marmoset in one of the enclosures. Small monkey but has a head of white fur which makes it rather adorable. Next door, we saw some curious monkeys that were checking us out. Afterall, we were the first visitors of the day…
Walking further, we came across this huge buffalo which reminded us of the Police Chief in Zootopia – an African Buffalo.
As you can see from the photo, it actually has a very muscular built with a shiny coat of hair. Very handsome indeed. As it was still early in the morning, we saw some animals such as the bear and hippopotamus, lazing in the water as well as some kangaroos chilling out…
It was also quite fun to see other animals coming out and lazing in the open…
Soon, it was time for our Animal Show at 10am…
Vinpearl Safari Phu Quoc Animal Show
The Animal Show at Vinpearl Safari started slightly after 10am with “The Final Countdown” as a prelude to the show. Thereafter, the lead host came up to do some introductions but she spoke mainly in Vietnamese…
The animal show is essentially a bird show that features the various types of birds in Vinpearl Safari. You will be able to see birds such as the hornbill, parrot, eagle and even the vulture…
Eventhough the host spoke in Vietnamese, there were translations throughout the show. The most exciting parts of the shows are definitely when the birds fly directly overhead across the audience. However, the host would remind the audience not to raise their hands when the birds flew past. You could literally feel the gust of wind, especially the bigger species of birds, as they flew over us.
There’s also themes of reduce, reuse, recycle that are similar to the Singapore Bird Park where parrots compete with each other to throw away rubbish. Many other cute birds also feature in the show. Hence, it is a definitely must-watch at Vinpearl Safari!
Vinpearl Safari Phu Quoc The Safari Bus Tour
After we reached the queues for the bus to for the Safari, we were told that we would be able to board the bus that was about to depart. However, as we were the last 2 to board the bus, the people on the bus had to make space for us and also we couldn’t get a good spot. The reason why we boarded the bus even though we were 6th in line for the next queue was because we were told that the next bus would leave in 20 minutes.
DON’T BELIEVE ‘EM!
As we were about to depart, we saw the next bus board already. Which meant that the wait for less than 5 minutes! 😐
We were actually quite happy with the Safari Bus Tour. There were safety features throughout. For instance, when we entered into each enclosure, there would be 2 gates. The bus would pass the first gate, wait for it to close behind, before the next gate opens up, ensuring that the animals do not pass into the enclosures that they are not supposed to be in. The doors are also chained up by the staff onboard – on hindsight, not entirely sure if this is a good measure though 🤔
One of the most exciting moments of the Safari Bus Tour was when we saw the rhinoceros running right next to the bus. The two younger rhinos were actually chasing each other but you could hear the thumping of their foot as they land. One of the rhinos then decided to charge towards the side of the bus where Kate was sitting! It was an intense moment. Thankfully, at the last instant, the rhino decided to slow down and walk away. Perhaps it had barged into a bus and felt the pain before? 😅
The other cool thing about the Safari Bus Tour was coming up close to the animals such as the lions, rhinos, giraffes and antelopes…
*A little tip: Sit on the left side of the bus for better views of the safari animals.
Vinpearl Safari Phu Quoc Giraffe Restaurant Review
To round up our visit, we decided to have lunch at Giraffe Restaurant – a short walk from Safari bus stop when the tour ends…
Once inside, you’ll walk past the counters to place your orders first. This time, we went with the Beef Burger Set (160k VND – $9 SGD) as well as the Chicken Tenders Set (150k VND – $8.20 SGD). Both sets come with a bottle of coke, complete with a glass of ice, perfect to cool off after a day’s adventure in the zoo and safari.
Of course, as you can see from the photo above, one of the highlights of dining here was that you can be having your meal as close to the giraffe as you’d like. Best of all, they won’t be coming after your meal (even though they could) because their preferred diet is carrots and not the cucumber and tomatoes from your salad. Also, you’ll be stopped by the staff if you attempt to do so.
Each cup of carrots costs 30k VND and the giraffes do go through them pretty fast. You can literally feed them stick after stick and a cup could be finished in seconds. Therefore, get into the positions that would like your photo to be taken FIRST, before you start feeding the giraffes. Depending on the time of the day, use the sunlight well to luminate your photos as well. Lastly, the giraffes don’t bite. So it’s ok to let them just wrap their tongue over your fingers. Don’t worry, you can wash your hands at one of the basins nearby. As for us, we didn’t feed the giraffes ourselves but because we set next to the feeding area and took many shots with the giraffes and the meals ourselves. Hence, a good seat is just as important as well.

To end off the visit at Vinpearl Safari, we visited the Kids Zoo…
The Kids Zoo inside Vinpearl Safari is a small enclosure where the sheep and goats are allowed to roam freely. Much like a patting zoo, kids can interact, pat and feed these cute little animals inside. Beware that they are not afraid of strangers and are willing to come up close to you as well! Yikes!
We hope you have enjoyed our coverage of the Vinpearl Safari. If you are visiting an attraction in Phu Quoc, we’d definitely recommend Vinpearl Safari. During our visit, we also saw visitors rushing off to VinWonders to check out the other attractions over there. In our opinion, it would be rather rush. We saw some older folks sleeping on the bus enroute – rushing for attractions definitely don’t sound enticing for us. Hence, do spread out your days at the attractions if you’re thinking of visit both Vinpearl Safari and VinWonders on Phu Quoc!
