Vuon Hoa Phuong Linh has a direct translation of “Phoenix Flower Garden” but in fact, it is a huge botanical garden in Hanoi right next to Red River! Inside, you’ll be able to find rows of flowers of different species and colours as well as many instagrammable spots. There’s even a cafe called Six Doong that has large bean bags, a camp fire, live performances (on Saturdays) as well as an outdoor BBQ area. For us, it is a well-hidden spot if you’d like to experience something a little bit different from Hanoi city…
Getting to Vuon Hoa Phuong Linh – Hanoi Botanical Gardens
From our Airbnb next Ho Tay Lake (West Lake), we were able to take a 15 minutes walk to Vuon Hoa Phuong Linh…
It was actually a nice little walk through a village near the gardens where the locals mainly have their own gardens and orchards. Stray dogs roam these streets as well 😂
As with most attractions here and overseas, locals pay a cheaper rate while tourists pay 50k VND per person ($3) which is still relatively affordable. Once inside, we were greeted by sights of flowers and instagrammable spots such as this windmill…
Moving further, we arrived at a “town square” of sorts. Here, you’ll be able to rent Ao Dai (traditional Vietnamese dress) as well as a little ancient street for more photo opportunities…
It was also the late afternoon and we were able to see the beautiful sun set in the distance…
Soon, we arrived at another plot of land with rows of flowers as well…
There were many groups of people – mostly ladies in Ao Dai along with professional photographers or instagram boyfriends, posing and making memories at the beautiful plots of flower fields. The locals really do know how to pose. After checking out the flower fields, we headed back to the Six Doong cafe, taking in views of the Red River enroute…
Review of Six Doong Cafe at Vuon Hoa Phuong Linh Hanoi Botanical Gardens
To wind down the evening, we headed over to Six Doong Cafe that is located inside Vuon Hoa Phuong Linh Hanoi Botanical Gardens…
This time, we ordered coke (20k VND), coconut (55k VND) and a plate of fried dumplings (69k VND)…
As you can see from the photos, the “fried dumplings” turned out to be fried man tou! Nonetheless, it was fried to a beautiful golden brown colour and tasted just as it should in reputable restaurants – crisp on the outside and fluffy within. The condense milk that accompanied it was not too sweet and this turned out to be a yummy dish.
The best part of our visit to Vuon Hoa Phuong Linh (Hanoi’s Botanical Garden at Red River) was definitely lounging next to the camp fire next to the bean bags. As it was a cool winter’s night, it was like sitting in an air-conditioned room with the bean bags snugly around you as you gaze into the night sky. Lounge music and familiar tunes of the early 2000s played in the background which added to the chillax vibes. There’s also a stage where a huge round moon structure is. Many couples and friends would head up to take photos with the moon while “grasping” or “hugging” it. In the distance, there’s also outdoor BBQ going on. With the cool evening air, an outdoor BBQ would be perfect as well. Last but not least, they also offer overnight camping – similar to our glamping or chalet concept in Singapore!
All in all, it was a perfect way to round up a day in Hanoi…
Soon, it was time for our to leave but it took about 30 minutes before we could get a Grab ride out. So, if you’re not driving like us, book your Grab rides ahead of time as well…
