Bold City Brewery was where we headed to after discovering the craft beer scene in Jacksonville at Engine 15 Brewery & Kitchen as well as Ruby Beach Brewing Company. Here’s what we found during our visit to Bold City Brewery in Jacksonville this time…
1. They have a friendly and casual vibe
Upon entering Bold City Brewery, we found the setting to be pretty casual. People were just chilling out and catching up with friends when we arrived at 3:30pm. The vibe that we got was that the joint was unpretentious and the staff were all super friendly. When we asked for iced water, they not only served the water with loads of ice but also served in the really cute Bold City cup – which prompted us to buy their in-house brew.
2. They have indoor and outdoor seats with beers brewed onsite
At Bold City Brewery, depending on the weather, you can choose the indoor or outdoor seats. As it was a sunny day out, we decided to sit indoors with air-conditioning. Here, we were also able to see some history of Bold City as well as the craft beer scene of Jacksonville strewn over the walls of the indoor seatings.
3. Beers have their own labels
As you can see, here are some examples of how much confidence Bold City have in their beers. This is because, many of the in-house beers have their special, individually-designed beer labels. For instance, for the Mad Manatee IPA, you can see a really cute manatee on its label while the Rhino Rye Pale Ale has a nonchalant rhinoceros going about its business. Reminded us of our visit to Fork and Brewer in Wellington where they have uniquely designed labels for all their beers as well!
4. They have their own little merch corner
Just like Engine 15 Brewery, Bold City Brewery also have their own little merchandise corner where you can buy caps, coasters and even beer tap handles! Cool cool cool!
5. They had their own tavern dog, now immortalised in a popular house craft beer
Bold City Brewery used to have a tavern dog, Duke, who roamed about its premise. Duke would bring a happy feeling to patrons of Bold City, contented to just feed off crumbs or morsels from the burgers of guests. Unfortunately, at the age of 7, Duke struggled with kidney problems and was eventually put to sleep in 2010. However, Duke’s legacy of bringing joy to patrons lives on today in its very own Duke’s Cold Nose Brown Ale. With its design of a really cute boxer on its label, Duke continues to bring joy to its visitors through its delicious tasting Brown Ale at Bold City Brewery!
6. They have the most affordable craft beers we’ve visited in Jacksonville
Compared to the flight of beers that we had at Engine 15 ($12), Bold City Brewery’s beer flights go for a flat rate of $8 which was pretty good as you’ll be able to try the different beers offered here. We also took the opportunity try out pints at $4, including Bold City IPA and Mad Manatee IPA. Really affordable prices, probably because of its location a distance away from downtown Jacksonville – which allows great prices for patrons. For the IPAs, we preferred Bold City IPA because of its hoppy and bold IPA tastes. As for the flight, we tried the Overcast and Cloudy hazy IPA, Fritz Hefeweizen, Roxy Imperial Cream Ale and Koku Maui Fire Relief Sessions IPA. We enjoyed the hefeweizen as well as a the sessions IPA which had a nice little woody flavour. The cream ale on the other hand was a little too sweet for us 😅

7. We’d be back again because…
As we have mentioned above, because of the cute Bold City Brewery cup, we bought a can of Duke’s Brown Ale. However, the first can that was given to us had a little dent and we asked for an exchange. There was no questions asked at all which was pretty cool. Hence, we’d be back again because of the excellent price points of the beers as well as the ever so friendly staff at Bold City Brewery!
