Souvenirs to buy from South Korea – 1. Flavoured Makgeolli (Korean Rice Wine)
For Korean food lovers, you must have tried makgeolli (Korean rice wine) that goes perfectly with dishes such as galbi and jjimdak. One of our first few experiences with makgeolli was at Big Mama Korean Restaurant at Kim Tian Road where the experience was simply unforgettable. But wait! You must thinking, “chey, makgeolli, Singapore also have what, what’s so special?” Well…this is the reason…
Flavoured Makgeolli! There are flavours such as sweet potato, chest nut, banana and even cheese makgeolli that can be bought at relatively cheap prices from South Korea. At only 2,200krw per bottle of 500ml, they’re relatively inexpensive but serves as an unique souvenir from South Korea!
Souvenirs to buy from South Korea – 2. Beef and Pork Marinade/Sauces
This sounds very “aunty” (Singlish for typical things that mothers do for the family such as couponing…) but…
Where do you think you can get the most authentic South Korean marinade at the most competitive prices? Well, South Korean supermarkets of course. We were also told that some brands are only sold in South Korea (yeah, the best sauces are still kept in South Korea!). At only 3,300krw per bottle for that special galbi or bulgogi marinade, mothers (and mothers-in-law) would find it hard to reject such a thoughtful souvenir from South Korea!
Souvenirs to buy from South Korea – 3. Chocopie
Although you can only get the Pablo x Chocopie from Pablo Cheese Tart stores in Japan, you’ll be happy to find a variety of Chocopie as souvenirs from South Korean Supermarkets!
For 6,000krw, you can get a box of 18 chocopie that comes in unique flavours such as green tea, banana and even chocolate chip! While you’re at it, don’t forget to get some for us as well…won’t you? -_-”
