Nestled in the idyllic Changi Village is the Changi Village Hawker Centre. Here, you’ll be able to find some of the best nasi lemak in town as well as some other local food gems. We’ve always enjoyed coming to Changi Village. As a former British R&R location, you can still see some of these “footprints”, especially with the black and white terrace houses dotting the vicinity of Changi Village. The laid-back charm of Changi Village can still be felt today as you venture to its docks for a ferry ride to Pulau Ubin, another old-world gem in Singapore.
This time, we visited Changi Village Hawker Centre for breakfast before visiting Changi Beach Park nearby. Let’s find out what we had during our visit to Changi Village Hawker Centre this time…
What Food to Eat at Changi Village Hawker Centre #1: Mizzy Corner Nasi Lemak
There are sooooooo many nasi lemak stalls in Changi Village Hawker Centre – you’ll be spoilt for choice. So how does one go about choosing which nasi lemak stall to try at Changi Village Hawker Centre? Well, we prefer the “old-school” way of seeing the presentation at the stall itself. This time, Mizzy Corner Nasi Lemak caught our eye. A stall that was brightly-lit and clean, along with an amicable macik – PLUS the fried chicken looked really good!
We ordered the standard “Set A” nasi lemak which comes with its fried chicken combination at $3.50 a plate. The portion was alright given the price. In terms of taste, we would say that it is overall a better-than-average nasi lemak. Egg, rice and chili as it ought to be. Simple but nothing fanciful. Of course, the star of this nasi lemak was its fried chicken. Well-battered with a slight tinge of spices; while the fried chicken remained crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Nice.
What Food to Eat at Changi Village Hawker Centre #2: Delisnacks
Another stall we’d always visit at Changi Village Hawker Centre, is Delisnacks. Delisnacks sells some of the best fried local pastries such as you tiao (fried dou sticks), butterfly bun, xian jian bing (salted bun) and banana fritter. There’s an ongoing discount where you can get 5 items for $4 as well…
The fried dough from Delisnacks is simply some of the best we’ve had in Singapore. You know that your fried pastry is well-prepared when you give it a little compression and it restores to its original shape. In the taste department, there’s a nice chewiness to it as the taste of the sesame seeds permeates on bite. Lastly, you can also see the layering to the dough which explains its amazing texture. Don’t miss Delisnacks when you’re in Changi Village Hawker Centre!
What Food to Eat at Changi Village Hawker Centre #3: Nan Mei Traditional Coffee
For our morning cuppa, we’ll usually go with Nan Mei Traditional Coffee. Whether you like your cup of Joe, hot or iced, Nan Mei serves up some of the best kopi at Changi Village Hawker Centre. That is why the morning crowds can get rather long…
