What we had at YOUNGS Bar and Restaurant
As it was a rainy day, we thought that there would be less people at YOUNGS… we were so wrong! In fact, throughout the Seletar Aerospace Park (SAP), we saw several popular joints such as Wheeler’s Estate, Chow Cute Cafe and YOUNGS having almost full occupancy, at least at the alfresco areas. Thankfully, we were also able to snag a seat this time to enjoy the cool outdoors. To start off, we went with Peroni (2 for $14++) and White Bait ($4++), both from the 4th Anniversary menu…
We were pleasantly surprised by the portion of the white bait. Initially, we would have thought that since it was reduced from the original price of $14++ to $4++, the portion would have reduced correspondingly as well. However, this was not the case. It was GENEROUS. In the taste department, it was relatively good as well – lightly crisp on the outside. Excellent bar food that went well with the Peroni. From this first order, we knew that the 4th Year Anniversary deals at YOUNGS was genuine. At $7++ a pint for draught Peroni? Definitely worth a visit!
Next, it was time for our bar/pub entertainment – SCRABBLE!
Travel scrabble is a portable version of the game that we bring around the world to chill while still exercising our brains a little. This time, we drew once while Tom lost 3 times in the row (probably after the beers…)
To console Tom for his immense losses at Scrabble, we ended off the evening with the Mussel Pot (aka Moules Marinière)…
According to the description, the Mussel Pot include air flown Blue Mussels, White Wine Sauce, Shallots, Garlic, Leek, Celery. It also comes with a choice of artisanal toast (choose this!!) or fries.
First off, we thoroughly enjoyed this dish as we could taste the rich flavours of the mussels with the fragrance from the white wine and garlic. We also loved the artisanal toast which tasted great by itself. Toasted fragrance with a firm and slight chewy texture on each bite. The magic happens when you soak the toast into the mussels pot sauce. After infusing its goodness, the toast was so so good! Yum! The only slight gripe would be the saltiness towards the end of the meal. Otherwise, a great dish overall.
What else is there at the Oval Seletar Aerospace Park (SAP)?
Before entering YOUNGS, we wanted to drop by Chow Cute Cafe. However, we were surprised that there were so many animal lovers, out with their pets, on a rainy day no less. Hence, we decided to venture a little around the park instead…
As mentioned earlier, popular joints such as Wheeler’s Estate, YOUNGS Bar and Restaurant as well as Chow Cute Cafe tend to be filled up over the weekends. We usually use Google’s “Popular Times” function as a gauge on when would be a good time to go, in order to avoid disappointments.
We also checked out the rest of the Oval at Seletar Aerospace Park and found it to be a rather nice precinct to stroll in. The whole area has been set aside for the aerospace industry to house maintenance, design, manufacture and training companies, related to the industry. Due to its history as a former base of the British Royal Air Force, there were also over 300 black and white bungalows in the area. Of which, 204 have been conserved with some rebirthed as the popular dining destinations that we know of today.
