Legoland Florida is one of the premier attractions in the amusement park paradise of Florida. If you’re a Legoland enthusiast, you’d probably know that Legoland in Florida is the largest one in USA and the second-largest Legoland themepark in the world (largest is in Windsor, UK)! Thanks to the great folks at Visit Orlando and Legoland Florida (big shout-out to Cory & Brittany!), we were able to visit this fantastic attraction in Florida!
About Legoland Florida
Legoland Florida was opened in October 2011. According to our most trusted resource – Wikipedia, the intention to build Legoland in Florida was announced in January 2010 and the construction was completed in less than 2 years! Wow! The original venue was a garden attraction called Cypress Gardens and Legoland Florida was built up from there. This could be one of the reasons why the construction was done so quickly!
The Lego (which means “play well”) company was originally started by Ole Kirk Christiansen in his workshop in 1932 in Billund, Denmark. After starting out making wooden toys, he expanded to making plastic toys and started making lego bricks (similar to what we see today) in 1949. In those days, the lego bricks were actually called “Automatic Binding Bricks”. Glad that the name has since been changed. The first Legoland was opened in 1968 in Billund, Denmark. Today, the Lego group is still privately owned by the Christiansen family.
According to the map of Legoland Florida, there are 13 zones (known as Lands) and more than 50 attractions and shows. The Lands are
The Beginning
Lego Kingdoms
Duplo Valley
Fun Town
Imagination Zone
Land of Adventure
Lego City
Miniland USA
The World of Chima
Pirates’ Cove
Lego Technic
Heartlake City
Cypress Gardens
While we were there, we also saw posters saying that Ninjago is coming soon to Legoland Florida!
Legoland Florida is located at 1 Legoland Way, Winter Haven, FL 33884. Opening hours of Legoland Florida is from 10am to 5pm with extended hours during summer months. Parking costs $15 at Legoland Florida and you’ll be able to take a short walk to to park entrance therafter.
Attractions and Shows in Legoland Florida
In this section, we’ll show you the shows and attractions in each of the Lands at Legoland Florida…
The Beginning
The Beginning is where visitors enter into Legoland. Just before you enter Legoland, you’ll be able to see the Legoland Hotel (and the green dragon at its entrance) and have a great shot of the welcome sign of Florida Legoland. Of course, you’ll be able to take a shot with the iconic Legoland Tourist (also seen in Legoland Malaysia) as well as a water spewing red Dragon!
We also took a ride on the Island in the Sky, an observatory, that affords panoramic views of the entire Legoland Florida. Check out this video!
Lego Kingdoms
Lego Kingdoms is the medieval-themed zone of Legoland. Here you’ll be able to find rides such as Merlin’s Challenge and Royal Joust for the little ones.
Duplo Valley
Of course, the littlest ones are not forgotten. At Duplo Valley, there’s a water play area, farm, train ride as well as a baby care center.
Fun Town
Fun Town is where you’ll be able to grab some pizzas, slushies and apple fries! We also took a ride on the old school Grand Carousel, right in the middle of Fun Town. The other major attraction here? The Wells Fargo Fun Town Theater!
Here, you’ll be able to catch 4D shows such as the Lego Movie (not seen in theaters) as well as the Lego Nexo Knights. Remember to head straight to the characters booth outside after the movies, you might be able to take a photo with the movie characters!
Imagination Zone
Similar to the Imagination Zone in Legoland Malaysia, you’ll be able to expand your kids imagination through creative and building zones. There’s also a kid power tower where parents and kids and pit their strength, coordination and teamwork against each other!
Land of Adventure
Land of Adventure resembles the “Indiana Jones” – themed zone of Legoland. There’s a kids version of giant drop, known as Beetle Bounce as well as a kids roller coaster known as Coastersaurus. Our favourite is the indoors shooting game called Lost Kingdom Adventure. As usual, Tom emerged as the winner, scoring 3 times higher than Kate! 😛
Lego City
Lego City is where kids can have hands on experience at driving, flying, boating as well as putting out fires at the Rescue Academy. If you’re looking for what to eat in Legoland Florida, you must visit the Fried Chicken Restaurant here. It is probably the most economical meal in Legoland Florida. Big chunky pieces of tender, juicy fried chickens at an affordable price!
Miniland USA
Having visited several cities in USA such as San Francisco, New York and Las Vegas, it was really cool to see all these structures and building shrunk and built using lego bricks in Miniland USA!
The World of Chima
The World of Chima is the land featuring Laval the prince of the Lion Tribe. Our favourite ride at the World of Chima is the Quest for CHI – a boat ride that incorporates water guns. The water guns work on hand pump system. The faster you turn the pump, the more (and continuous) the flow of water. In addition, you’ll also be able to shoot at passers-by! Of course, they’ll be able to use of the land water guns to shoot back as well. So, be prepared to be soaked!
Pirates’ Cove
One of our favourite show took place at Pirates’ Cove – Battle for Brickbeard’s Bounty! The show was entertaining with water ski tricks that we’ve not seen before anywhere else! Of course, it was cute to see the Lego soldiers and Captain Brickbeard in action! Check out the video of the show below!
Lego Technic
Yet another staple feature of Legoland. Lego Technic features signature rides such as Project X and Aquazone Wave Racers. Having taken both rides previously, we gave the rides a miss this time.
Heartlake City
Heartlake City is the home of the Lego Friends series. It is also here where you’ll find the ‘Friends to the Rescue’ Live Stage Show at Heartlake Hall. We initially didn’t want to go for the show but the girl at the entrance kept saying “Come! You will enjoy it!”. And so we did. And so we found out that it was a live show for the little girls – ala High 5! But we did enjoy Mia’s Riding Adventure at Heartlake City!
