We recently completed a cruise with Norwegian Cruise Line aboard the beautiful Norwegian Jade to Corzumel (Mexico), Belize City (Belize) and Roatan Island (Honduras). In our attempt to mimic our post on the most comprehensive coverage of the Mariner of the Seas of Royal Caribbean Cruise, we will be doing the most comprehensive coverage of Norwegian Jade, Norwegian Cruise Line!
Ship Layout of Norwegian Jade Norwegian Cruise Line
There are 17 dining options, 15 bars and lounges, spa & salon, fitness center, sports court, 2 swimming pools, 4 hot tubs, casino, internet cafe, Entourage teen club and Splash Academy youth center aboard the Norwegian Jade. The Norwegian Jade has a Hawaiian theme throughout the ship which probably explains the unusually high number of bars and lounges for this class of ship. Which is why, we wrote extensively about the Ultimate Beverage Package offered by Norwegian Cruise Line and whether it was all worth it…
Interior Stateroom Norwegian Jade (Norwegian Cruise Line NCL)
Having experienced the Balcony Suites during one of our previous cruises, we now go for the cheapest interior stateroom for all our cruises (unless there’s a free complimentary upgrade which we don’t mind ;)). The other reason we rationalized was that if we wanted sea breeze, we’ll just head to one of the open decks and this little adjustment in expectations saved us quite a sum for the last few cruises. The interior stateroom of the Norwegian Jade did not disappoint. We love the layout which really saved space and as a result, there’s a larger bathroom than expected. Most of the interior rooms we’ve stayed in had really cramped toilets. Not this one. There was plenty of space in the showers which was a pleasant surprise!
Norwegian Jade Norwegian Cruise Line Deck 13
Since Deck 14 and 15 are sun decks, we’ll start our tour of the Norwegian Jade from Deck 13…
Deck 13 is probably the most “happening” deck aboard the ship. For fitness buffs, the jogging track, basketball court and mini golf range is located here. There’s also a huge, life-sized checkers set.
Of course, the 2 swimming pools and 4 hot tubs are located on deck 12. You can also chill at the bars on either side of the pool. Do note that drinks are not allowed by the side of the pools or hot tubs. There’s also a specialty restaurant – Cagney’s Steakhouse located on deck 13.
Spinnaker Lounge is one of the most entertaining venus. Game shows are hosted daily here. As for Star Bar, we would advise teens and children to stay away. The Star Bar hosts LGBT events daily.
Norwegian Jade Norwegian Cruise Line Deck 12
Moving to deck 12, there’s a chapel, library and cardroom. The cardroom is essentially a games room where you can play board games such as monopoly as well.
Great Outdoors (on deck 12) is an extension of the Garden Cafe buffet restaurant (one of the complimentary dining venues). This is one of our favourite places for breakfast where you can take in fresh air and enjoy the expansive views of the ocean while feasting on eggs benedict – our daily staple during the cruise.
Most mornings, there would be complimentary exercise classes called “Fab Abs”. One session would be enough for your abs to ache for the rest of the cruise – at least for unfit and fat passengers like us! 😛 You’ll then be able to pop by next door for relaxing massages at the spa or even spruce up a new hairdo at the salon. La Cucina is a specialty italian restaurant on deck 12.
Parents should be familiar with this deck as its also where the teens club and kids club are located. Kids will be well taken care off while parents can relax and enjoy shows during sea days. You’ll also be able to see the ship navigators in action at the Bridge View area.
Norwegian Jade Norwegian Cruise Line Deck 8
Deck 11 to deck 9 are all accomodation areas so we’ll skip to deck 8 where 2 restaurants are located.
Blue Lagoon is a complimentary dining venue while Moderno Churrascaria is a specialty dining restaurant for Brazilian style churrascaria. Although Blue Lagoon does not serve eggs benedict (eggs benedict are only served at Garden Cafe), the sunny side up are not too bad at all. The buffalo wings are quite tasty as well. We had some of the best beef at Moderno and if there’s one specialty dining you’ve got to try, it has to be the churrascaria at Moderno. We’ll talk more about it later in this post.
Norwegian Jade Norwegian Cruise Line Deck 7
Deck 7 is also where most of the other “actions” take place. The atrium is located here at deck 7 as well. For guest services, shore excursions and hotel related stuff, you can head over to the atrium at deck 7.

There’s a choice of asian food at the Jasmine Garden Asian Restaurant which is a complimentary dining venue. Located at the same place are Sushi Bar and Teppanyaki which are specialty dining restaurants. Food at Jasmine Garden isn’t really that good. The only thing that was good was the dessert – red bean in crispy wafers with green tea ice cream. Otherwise, you can give the Jasmine Garden a miss.

Just like Royal Caribbean Cruise, there’s champagne art auction as well. We bought an art and have yet to receive it. Let’s hope it does not turn out to be a possible scam such as what we’ve written about RCC. Tradewinds is a good place to do some duty free shopping. Especially if you’re planning to make big purchases. Savings could be in the hundreds (or thousands if you’re buying an Alexandrite)…

Stardust Theatre was where the acts and performances took place. We must say that the performances aboard the Norwegian Jade were really good quite good. Well, less the magic part. Otherwise, the comedy by David Naster was awesome and the singers/musical was fantastic as well. The combined show called Elements was entertaining as well. Really really close to Broadway standards.

Both Alizar and Grand Pacific are complimentary dining at level 6. As Grand Pacific offers fine dining, collared shirt, long pants and covered shoes are required. At Deck 6, you’ll find whiskey, martini and wine bars. Don’t forget to try the cucumber coolers there!
