On day 12 – second last day of our trip :(, we checked out the Luau at Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa. The Luau at Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa costs about $100USD per person and the programme starts from 5:30pm to 8:30pm. We made the reservation when we checked in, just to ensure that we got a spot.
We woke up to the sounds of the birds chirping in the gardens around us. Imagine luscious greenery, view of the ocean in the distance and small feathered friends roaming the gardens. A glimpse of paradise. For the REAL paradise, the Lord Jesus Christ has gone ahead to prepare for us… (John 14:2 – My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?). With a sunny morning, we were able to take some beautiful shots around the premise…
But soon, it turned cloudy as the passing showers from the ocean came in…
We were a little worried because this could mean that the Luau at Grand Hyatt Kauai could be cancelled. Nonetheless, we decided to head out to old Koloa town for our lunch (and ice cream and shopping). We visited a couple of souvenirs in town and settled on getting a Kauai Chicken painted on a sea shell. If you’re thinking about where you can get a cheap and nutritious lunch, head over to Big Save Market. Here, we bought 2 pieces of pork chops with yam, mashed potato, corn and drinks for less than $7USD! :O
Thankfully, as we headed to Spouting Horn Kauai, the clouds began to clear and it was actually sunny enough for us to enjoy this natural wonder. Once back at Grand Hyatt Kauai, we first checked back at the reception at about 3pm and the Luau was still not yet confirmed (meaning it could still be cancelled). There are actually many venues where Grand Hyatt Kauai can hold its Luau. Depending on the size of the turn out as well as the weather, it will then decide and inform the guests of the exact location. Even if it rains, the Luau at Grand Hyatt Kauai will still continue – albeit indoors. Thankfully, by 4pm, it was confirmed and we changed out into our “Hawaiian wear” and headed out to join the queues at about 5:15pm. Our first (and probably) last Luau at Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa!
Everything about the Luau at Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa
In reality, if you’re not so concerned about the seats or that you only have 2 people in your party, you can go relatively later as there were still plenty of seats on the next row after most of the guests have arrived. However, to ensure the best seats in the house (front row seats especially), you will have to start queuing at about 4:30pm…
Once we entered into garden lawn area, you can take part in several pre-event activities. The kids can learn how to swing Hawaiian Poi balls or get some simple hand/face painting done. Hula lessons are available as well. The adults can proceed to bar to get the classic mai tai, hawaiian beer or some house wines. The Luau at Grand Hyatt Resort and Spa includes
– Traditional Lei Greeting
– Open Bar (inclusive of unlimited mai tai, beers and wines)
– All You Can Eat Buffet (inclusive of BBQ Kalua Pig and Hawaiian Poi – made from boiled taro roots)
– Hawaiian Crafts and Demonstrations
– Hula Lessons (for the adventurous!)
After getting our mai tai, we decided to get a couple’s painting done on our arms…
After the introduction by the emcee, it was time to get our food as part of the all-you-can-eat-buffet of the Luau at Grand Hyatt Kauai…
As you can imagine, the Kalua Pig was tender and irresistibly juicy (or oily? hm…). Tasty! The poi (boiled taro) on the other hand was an acquired taste. It was more like starch and had little taste of the taro. Tread carefully with this one…
As the drinks and food flowed, the performances of the Luau at Grand Hyatt Kauai began…
All in all, it was a wonderful amazing time of delicious food, great tasting mai tais as well as entertaining Hawaiian cultural performances of the Luau at Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa!

There won’t be a post on day 13 of our travels in Hawaii as it entails the checking out process and arriving at Lihue airport in Kauai. Nonetheless, we’ll leave you with this amazing view of Kauai as we took our last flight leaving the islands of Hawaii!
