Before we left Big Island, we started day 3 of our Hawaii Trip at Greenwell Farms to have a taste of the famous Kona Coffee!

If you had read our previous post, you’ll know that at this time, we were barely able to walk (after “conquering” or rather, “conquered” by the trek on lava fields in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park). Hence, we had to tell our guide to give us some time to catch up with the group 😛

The cool thing about coffee plantations in Hawaii is that coffee tastings are FREE! You can try the various blends available as well as the highly recommended Kona Coffee. Just before we left Big Island for Maui, Kate took Tom to have his first Acai Bowl at Kailua Kona…
Before long, it was time to jet set over to Maui through Kona International Airport…
Where to stay in Maui
We chose to stay at Maui Seaside Hotel because of its location. It has great views of the mountains, easy access from Kahului Airport and is really close to Maui Mall and Kate’s favourite – Ross Dress for Less! We also bought a snorkel for $6USD that became our snorkelling gear for the rest of the trip 😉
After arriving at Maui Seaside Hotel, Tom took out his ukulele (yes, Tom actually lugged his ukulele all the way to Hawaii! :O) and took pictures with it by the beach – so cliche! -_-
Besides chilling out by the pool, the other part we enjoyed was sitting at the lawn of the hotel, facing the beautiful mountainous backdrop and enjoy the gentle breeze – all these while the waves lapped the shoreline. A perfect holiday!

Where to eat in Maui
For dinner, we started to google if there was any famous Poke (pronounced as “Poh – keh”) in the vicinity. Turns out that everyone recommended Tamura’s Market Poke. IF you do not already know by now, Poke is a Hawaiian raw fish salad that has become wildly popular in recent years. Even Singapore has several Poke joints. Having tried Sun Dried Specialties’ Poke in Big Island, we were looking forward to yet another delicious treat!

We think that Sun Dried Specialities has set a really high standard. Don’t get us wrong, Tamura’s Poke was good but somehow, the texture was definitely not as good as that as Sun Dried. Nonetheless, we got to enjoy our Poke Bowl at the nearby Community Center Park – another venue with gorgeous mountain views.

Many people have tried to compare Hawaii to Bali. At this juncture, we’d like to clarify once and for all that BALI IS NOTHING LIKE HAWAII!!! Somehow, when we first landed in Maui, we were able to feel the Hawaiian life – beautiful views, relaxed atmosphere, an amazing culture and an indescribable feeling of home away from home. It’s little wonder why many have spent vacations there and never returned…
Find out in our next post as we venture further into Maui – on the Road to Hana!
